What is a SharePoint Services site?
With a Windows SharePoint Services site, you get a secured intranet like website

You can upload, download and share any type of file, document or image. Also, if you are
using Microsoft Office documents like Word, Excel or PowerPoint, you will also have "one-click" save

environment. You can also be alerted by email if documents are modified or checked
out to their team members.

Strong Integration with Microsoft Office 2003®
A SharePoint SharePoint site offers deep integration with Microsoft Office applications such as
Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. You can open your SharePoint documents directly from
the application's recently used file list, edit the document and save your changes by simply
hitting the save button.
Additionally, Word, Excel and PowerPoint will
automatically detect that you are working in SharePoint and will open a separate task pane linked to your SharePoint
site. This task pane will let you access your other shared documents, tasks and other features of your SharePoint
site directly within the Office application.
